Houston Lodge #35 March 2014 Newsletter
Wow……how time flies! We are now ending the 1st Qtr. of the year. We had two very good regularly scheduled meetings with great attendance and two delicious meals provided by the Order of the Eastern Star.
We had a total of 34 members including visitors in attendance.
Our ribbon cutting ceremony for joining the Chamber of Commerce will be held on 31 Mar at 4:30, hope to see everyone there.
Please plan to participate in the upcoming Perry Dogwood festival on 12-13 April. The hours for Saturday are 0930 to 1830 and Sunday 1130 to 1730. The Coca Cola company will be providing us with a booth for selling cokes and water. Our Masonic banner will be displayed on the booth.
Our beautification project on the stairwell, hall, and ante room turned out to be a great success. Thanks to all for their effort in making this happen. A special thanks goes out to Dean Miller and John Croom for performing the final inspection.
The following brethren conferred a Master’s Degree for Milan Lodge on 7 Mar at MGDL: Charles Berry, Johnnie McGuire, Ken Howell, Thomas Brannen, John Ray Moore, Harry Hawkins, and Alan Shaw.
An inventory of our coolers has shown that several are unaccounted for and need to be returned for our upcoming events.
Worshipful Brother Dave Baxter DDGM for the 12th District Sub-District 12B made an official visit 10 Mar. Brother Baxter briefed on the Grand Masters programs for the year and reminded the brothers about the District 12 convention that was coming up on 19 April 2014. Brother Baxter thanked everyone for the warm reception.
We had good attendance for our two schools of instruction for the month of March.
On a sad note, Brother Blake Walston was admitted to Perry Hospice on 20 Mar. Let’s remember him and all our brethren and their families when on bended knees in devotion to all mighty God.
Thanks to Brother Buddy McDowell for meeting Allgood Pest Control at the lodge for scheduled service.
Did I mention we had two delicious meals provided by the Order of the Eastern Star?
I met with Perry Assistant fire chief David Stanton for an inspection on our facility. The following conditions must be met within 30 days: two fire extinguishers with a minimum rating of 2A:10B:C are required, one for the kitchen area and one located at the rear exit door. An exit sign with emergency lighting needs to be installed above the rear exit door. Also, emergency lighting must be installed in the lodge entrance doorway. The hood filters above the stove need to be cleaned and the sprinkler system pipes removed.
I’ve asked Dan Kitchens, PM, Landon Culpepper, and Kyle Stouder to serve on a committee for lodge of the year.
Jeff Onsted agreed to lead a committee for nominating a community civil servant award of the year (Fire, Police, Nurse, etc.).
Thanks to all for your continued contributions for the Perry Hospice Community Service.
I purchased two large yellow bows to be displayed at our door entrance for the upcoming dogwood festival.
Let’s start the 2nd Qtr. of the year with the same enthusiasm shown thus far. Let’s increase our attendance by inviting a brother to attend our meetings.
Ken Howell, WM
